Atlanta LYVEF’s State of the Union Party

On January 25th, during President Obama’s State of the Union address, the League hosted a unique live panel called State of the Union 2011: Roadmap to Progress. We’ve assembled an amazing team of organizers, political minds and entertainers tthat discussed President Obama’s speech live on Ustream. We flooded the Internet with Tweets (#BarackTalk) and Facebook updates to get the word out that the next generation’s needs cannot be ignored. Too much is going on for us to not be involved in the conversation and that’s why we are going to show the world that our generation is paying attention.

Trick Or Vote!

On October 30, 2010 Trick or Vote premiered in Atlanta.  The League of Young Voters Education Fund rallied volunteers to encourage people to go to the polls and vote on November 2nd.

During the day, the volunteers had on costumes and walked door to door with the trick-or-treaters to discuss the importance of voting, determin if residents needed a ride to the polls, and make sure they knew what items to bring to their polling site. At 864 knocks, we barely fell short of our 1,000 doors knocked goal!

Immediately following the costumed canvass, The League of Young Voters sponsored a Halloween masquerade party in association with marketing and promotional groups FCC, Atlbarz, Lady Cartel, and Dynasty Ent. to promote the upcoming election in two days. The event was held at a gorgeous venue called AJA in Buckhead. There were two $500.00 prizes given away for the best female and male costume. It was a hard pick so the partygoers made the final decision by a majority VOTE!

Party With A Purpose Has Fun In The Sun!

For over a decade, every summer on Wednesdays there have been free live concerts given at Centennial Olympic Park. This park was built in Atlanta specifically as a historical memoir of the 1996 Olympics. You can enjoy everything from jazz to contemporary music performed by your favorite local and national touring acts. “Wind Down Wednesday” occurs the months of April through September from 5:30pm-8:00pm.

The League of Young Voters Education Fund started canvassing at “Wind Down Wednesdays” because this event turns out crowds weekly. The downtown park location proved to be beneficial for the “Party with a Purpose” campaign because couples were eating picnic style, individuals were dancing, and children were playing in the water fountains. The atmosphere embraced the model of comradery and interacting with others; which is sometimes a difficult task to accomplish.

We will be back every summer for this fun in the sun! Check out pictures of young people registering to vote after the jump!
