About Us
The League
of Young Voters Education Fund (LYVEF) empowers young people
nationwide to participate in the democratic process – with a focus on
non-college youth and youth from low-income communities and communities
of color. LYVEF makes civic engagement relevant by meeting young people
where they are, working on issues that affect their lives, and
providing them with tools, training, and support to become viable
players in the civic process. Founded in 2003, LYVEF has become one of
the strongest nonpartisan youth civic engagement organizations in the
country.
Our integrated youth civic engagement model combines
best practices from community, campus and cultural organizing with
sophisticated voter engagement techniques. During election cycles, we
run targeted data-driven, precinct-based voter contact and turnout
programs. The rest of the year we organize our constituents around
issues that make sense to young people. By focusing on relevant local
issues like juvenile justice, green jobs, access to education and
healthcare and organizing around climate change, we are engaging and
mobilizing new and drop-off voters who would otherwise not be active in
off election years.
Building on the lessons we learned from
2003-2008, The League of Young Voters Education Fund enters 2009
positioned to mobilize our core constituencies (young people of color,
non-college youth and low- income youth) like never before in our
history. Our 2009 field program will consist of Get-out-the-vote (GOTV)
programs, issue campaigns, lobbying, online organizing and leadership
development. The League of Young Voters Education Fund will be running
field campaigns in the following eight states: Maine, Pennsylvania,
Florida, Ohio, New York, Wisconsin, Minnesota and California.
