Local Affiliates
Pennsylvania
In 2010, LYVEF PA will focus on green jobs capacity building. LYVEF PA will conduct a campaign to pass green jobs legislation, run community education and leadership development programs in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Erie. Our major goals in PA are to pass green jobs legislation at the local and/or state level, build regional and statewide alliances that connect the “green” dots and raise awareness about the green economy, build a leadership pipeline, build a constituency of community residents supporting green initiatives and connect residents to green job opportunities and training programs.
Maine
In 2010, LYVEF ME will focus on public transportation, green energy jobs, clean elections, Portland’s charter commission, and the mobilization of young voters for local elections in Portland. Our major goals in Maine are to turn young people out in the low profile elections and pass green jobs legislation at the local and/or state level through the New Energy Jobs Alliance.
Wisconsin
In 2009, the Wisconsin League will focus on juvenile justice, green jobs, felon disenfranchisement and local elections in Milwaukee. LYVEF WI will continue with its violence prevention work in the city of Milwaukee through conflict resolution and civic engagement trainings. LYVEF WI has changed it's tagline from Peace and Love to Peace, Green and Love. Every Wednesday LYVEF WI runs a green jobs roundtable for community members to come and learn how green jobs and climate change connects to the uplifting of Milwaukee. There are local elections in February and April. Our major goals in Wisconsin are to mobilize young people to partake in the upcoming city elections, pass green jobs legislation at the local level and pass paid sick days at the state level.
Minnesota
In 2010, the LYVEF MN will focus on green jobs, felon re-enfranchisement, electoral reform and college access. LYVEF MN will conduct issue work targeting local elected officials and city commisioners. There are no local elections being targeted this year. Our major goals in Minnesota are to push for green jobs legislation at the local level while building the group’s leadership and capacity for 2010’s mid term elections through experiential learning opportunities.
Florida
In 2010, LYVEF Florida will focus on issues education around green jobs and building public support around issues of voting rights. We will conduct an issue campaign to advocate for investment in green jobs, restoration of voting rights for the formerly incarcerated and to allow voter registration during the first week of early voting in Florida. Our major goals in Florida are building the group’s leadership and capacity for 2010’s mid term elections through experiential learning opportunities and to increase public engagement on environmental and voting rights issues to empower lower socioeconomic constituents.
Ohio
In 2010, LYVEF OH will focus on green jobs, gun violence, and affordable house and recreation programs for youth. LYVEF OH is run in partnership with Young People For. In Ohio we will continue to build and strengthen our states wide coalition and do sufficient trainings to have our constituents doing lobbying on the state level by mid year. We will also work to list build and register voters in preparation for the 2010 midterm elections.
California
In 2010, the California League of Young Voters Education Fund will focus on leadership development, green jobs, college access, and affordable housing. LYVEF CA will conduct an issue campaign as well as an integrated voter engagement program to mobilize voters in the upcoming city elections. Our major goals in California are to turn out young voters and build the group’s leadership and capacity for 2010’s mid term elections through experiential learning opportunities.
New York
In 2010, LYVEF NY will focus on public transportation, green jobs, and sustainable development. LYVEF NY will continue to build on the momentum of their Powervote campaign to engage new voters in the civic process and do issues education around how New York can become a leader in the Green Jobs movement. Since New York is a newly revived affiliate we will take this opptunity to build our base, build alliance and do introductory meetings with elected officials and commissioners.
