Ohio League Fights Voter ID Laws Got ID

GotID logo
This week, Ohio’s State Senate is set to pass HB-159, which would require every voter to present a specific photo ID before they vote. The problem is that 900,000 Ohio voters don’t have the right ID.

Ohio’s Secretary of State, Jon Husted, has come out in opposition of the bill. It’s up to us to stop our Senators from passing this irresponsible legislation.

Speak up to stop HB-159 today!

Juneteenth

As you all know Juneteenth is coming, and rather quickly. The Campaign Against Violence will be at this event and we will have a table in front of Burger King on Locust and Martin Luther King Dr. Any and everyone please come show some love. This day marks the abolishing of slavery, also we will be down there informing people of the Voter ID bill. These two things are related in more ways then most people are aware of. So please come out and show your support, and learn a few things or so.  For more information you can go and check out CAV Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=179462608776238

#GotID?

GotID litThink your vote counts? Thanks to new regulations, 20 percent of 18-29 year olds will be turned away at the polls without updated IDs.

These laws are intended to silence an entire demographic of voters and change election outcomes. We need to get organized and make sure our voice is heard. #GotID?

Inspiring Activism: Biko Baker on What We Do

In case you were wondering, this is what we do. The Atlanta Post featured our executive director, Biko Baker in this video:

You’re Invited: Take a Kid to a Car Show

Zoo AtlantaCome spend some quality time with your kids at the Take a Kid to a Car Show gathering in Atlanta. The event is FREE and it’s a great opportunity for young kids (or kids at heart) to see exotic cars and bikes. Plus, we’ve partnered with Geoff Morris Productions to offer discounted $12 tickets to Zoo Atlanta for anybody who volunteers with us at the Kids Car Show. Here are the details:

WHERE: Grant Park/ Zoo Atlanta
WHEN: Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 5 p.m.

We’ve got 3 volunteer shifts on Saturday if you can come and help out: 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 12:30 – 3:00 p.m., and 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. Volunteering with the Georgia League is fun, laid-back, and rewarding. Our volunteers work together to get people to pledge to vote, fill out surveys about the issues that matter to them, and meet and greet the community.

Take a Kid to a Car Show will be ongoing all day, so bring friends, blankets, chairs and water and come enjoy the summer sun! If you’re ready to volunteer, just email Georgia@youngvoter.org and we’ll get you all the details.
